About @jakka-ningen.aeug.space

It's the Bluesky account of makz's! Originally a Gundam-focused side-account on Twitter, @jakka-ningen quickly became my main account in 2021. I have basically abandoned Twitter in favor of Bluesky, and continue to post under this monicker mostly about Gundam and my own daily life.

[About makz]

Who can interact?

With some exceptions [*], anyone is invited follow, although I may occasionally reblog art that tows the line of being NSFW. I'm making an effort to keep the account R15, so users who are much younger should probably avoid interacting. (I am a non-religious American in a major city in my 30s; my definition of R15 might differ from yours. Please take care and use your best judgement.)

I repost ship art, both of canon and non-canon pairings. I think that fiction is fictional, and I don't see any point in policing others' tastes in fiction. Although, as I stated previously, I try to keep what I repost limited to R15 content, people who have strong opinions about shipping may wish not to follow or interact with me.

I don't want to be added to Starter Packs or Follow Lists. I think these are useful tools, and I will use them to follow others, but I do not want to be included in any, personally. I do not "follow-for-follow," and I hope no one takes my not following them back as a personal affront. (If you want to add me to a List or a Feed to segment up your personal timeline, I don't mind that at all, but please don't advertise the List or Feed to others.)

I have DMs set to "off" for everyone, even mutuals. (I am terrible at timely communication outside of my job, and don't need the stress of "another real-time communication platform.") Please feel free to have a conversation with me in any thread I post!

I am not seeking romantic or sexual relationships. Please do not proposition me.

What do you post?

Most of my posts and reposts will revolve around Gundam, older anime and manga (especially sci-fi/mecha and shoujo works), and animanga culture broadly. I may also post about other things from Japan, as that's a major hyperfixation for me. (I like to describe myself as "the kid Cool Japan never wanted.") I also often "like" posts about technology, music (especially older visual kei), LGBT+ culture, and neurodiversity.

I firmly believe that "cringe is dead," so if you're really "cool," the stuff I like (and the way in which I go about liking that stuff) might not suit your tastes.

I post about and reblog technology news and political content on occasion. My viewpoints are generally left-wing, pro-archival (positive about preservation of endangered works), anti-theft (negative about generative AI and piracy of in-print physical products), pro-privacy (including encryption), pro-right-to-repair, pro-DIY, pro-transformative-works, and anti-monopoly.

I am a recovering tech-optimist and long to regain optimism even as I gain perspective.

What do you avoid posting?

[*] I will not engage with right-wing and bigoted content (including TERF content) and discourage anyone with these views from interacting with me. I will sooner block than debate.

I don't repost "doomer" posts, although I do "like" the posts of others who are sharing their feelings and will occasionally vent about my own frustrations. My goal is that, if I am reposting others' thoughts on politics or world affairs, they will always include a call-to-action or a link to useful resources.

I try not to repost screenshots and news articles that are intended to demean others (especially "today's main character on Social Media"-type posts), but I will "like" the posts of others who are poking fun at particularly onerous public figures and may comment on such posts on occasion.

I don't enjoy anti-shipping discourse. I think fiction is fictional. I will not post or repost anything involved with these debates.

Are you promoting anything?

I don't, at this moment, have anything to sell. If this changes, I'll probably, at most, advertise anything I want to sell on a separate account on social media and occasionally repost announcements from that account, so as to make it easy to mute the advertising account if you don't want ads on your feed.

I have many friends who will help me out if I am in financial distress. Unless something absolutely wild happens in my personal life, I will never ask followers to help me monetarily. (If you see this kind of posting from my account, be suspicious and make sure the handle is correct.)

If I reblog charities, they're ones that have been vetted by someone whose opinions I trust. If I reblog individual requests for aid, they're either people who are known figures within the online communities I frequent or people I'm maximally within two degrees of separation from via someone I know offline.
